Kellogg Cereal Recall Announced

Kellogg this afternoon recalled 28 million boxes of its Corn Pops, Honey Smacks, Froot Loops and Apple Jacks cereals packaged in white foil bags because of an off-flavor and smell coming from the bags.

The company says people should not eat the affected cereals, which include:

Only products with the letters "KN" following the Better If Used Before Date.

General Mills to Reduce Sugar in Cereals

I don't think General Mills should reduce sugar in Children's Cereals. Does Coke have to change it's Coke formula? Does Hershey's have to reduce sugar in its candy bars? Parents have a variety of options for kids cereals--both higher and low sugar. Make the choice that's best for your family but don't ruin the taste for the rest of us.

My new 35 box cereal tower!!

Strawberry Delight Frosted Mini Wheats

My favorite new cereal this year, I've been a lover of Frosted Mini Wheats since I was a kid. This one is just the best. I've become a fan of artificial strawberry flavor and Kellogg's didn't let me down.

I usually soak my mini-wheats in milk for about 10 mins (in the fridge of course) and let them get soft. This is a must!!! For Strawberry Delight, the milk is pink and the texture is perfect.

Kudos to Kelloggs for getting this right.

Strawberry Chex

A new edition to the venerable Chex line of cereals. I have been a lover of Chex cereals since I was a kind and they were owned by Ralston Purina (yes, the dog food maker). I'd say my favorite Chex cereal was Rice Chex--it gets soggy in mik tastes like....well, like not much of anything. So when I saw Strawberry Chex on the shelf, I knew I had to try it! (Plus the box said NEW and cereal boxes never lie.)

So the verdict....

I LOVED IT! The strawberry covered rice and corn Chex was just perfectlly artifical and just sweet enough. It gave my milk a nice strawberry flavor and a nice pink tone. I've been very disappointed in flavored Chex in the past including Chocolate Chex and Honey Nut Chex. This one, however, is a winner!

Review of Chocolate Peanut Butter Pops

This new cereal by Kellogg's was just released to the market. I was lucky enough to find it at my local Wal-mart for only $2.00! I was eager to try it as I am huge fan of chocolate and peanut butter....and cereal of course. Before I provide my review, I have to give you my previous experience with chocolate and peanut butter cereals.

The first in the category was Quaker Oats' Peanut Butter Cap'n Crunch. It's been around since I was a kid (and I'm 40 years old). I was never a huge fan of it. The peanut butter corn balls were always too crunchy for me and I never really tasted a lot of peanut butter. The next entry to the category was General Mills' Reese's Puffs. It's been around now since the 90's. I always thought it was OK. It mixed the taste of chocolate and peanut butter with a slightly powdery, sugary coating. It was a bit softer that Cap'n Crunch with a more authenic, peanut butter taste. But as the years past, I lost my taste for it. (I have it in my cabinet as we speak but my daughter is eating it, not me.)

So when I saw the Chocolate Peanut Butter Puffs in the center aisle at Wal-mart, I was eager to try it. (I actually saw it on the Kelloggs web-site a few weeks ago so I was thrilled to hear about it.) My anticpation was great. Would it be like the original Sugar Corn Pops but with a chocolaty, peanut butter taste? Or would it be more of a corn ball version like General Mills' Reese's Puffs. I poured the 1st bowl and added my usual 1% milk (cooled to almost freezing temperature.) And the verdict is....

I LOVED IT!!!

It is based on the corn ball vs. the puffed corn. It has a softer texture than Reese's Puffs and the balls are about 50% larger. It has a perfect blend of peanut butter and chocolately taste with a nice powdery finish. I was impressed to notice that it had only 10g of sugar--not too bad for a pre-sweetened cereal, and peanut butter was actually the 3rd ingredient (after corn meal and sugar.) Overall, I like it so much that I had a 2nd bowl. I deem this cereal a winner and give it 5 cereal bowls out of 5. Kudos Kellogg's!
